Stumptown Comics Festival

Today's the last day of the Stumptown Comics Festival in Portland, Oregon. Please come by and say hi. I'll be there until 4:45 today because, regretfully, I am a very busy person. I am so excited to finally have some prints available. They are archival Giclee prints made by my friend Harlan from Reading Frenzy. He makes great quality prints. I highly recommend.

My demo reel is finally here.

It's been years and years and now I finally have the technology to edit my demo reel. Here it is. Thank god. Oh sweet animation. How I love thee. I will return to you some day soon. I promise... With more intellect and the smart sense to simplify. Music is Saint Simon by the Shins. I worked on the music video for free (concept, story-boarding, art dec., animation) so they owe me this at least.

Tae Kwon Do from Aron Steinke on Vimeo.

This is a film I made right out of film school. I made it the traditonal way with painted cels and shot it on 35 mm. It was made for a contest an apparel company was sponsoring. I didn't win the 10 K. Instead I got a measly gift certificate. In retrospect I wish I had edited the film. I wish I had done a real film about something else and not an advertisement for some stupid company. BUT!! This was a huge learning experience. Negating all the bad stuff, some of my animation is really good. I feel like I show a pretty good understanding of the moving human body. But why the hell didn't I draw mouths on the characters. Oy vey! Anyway, It's been 8 years since I've done any animation and I feel like if I were to go back to it I'd certainly produce something of quality. Maybe in 2013.

digiBiDi French preview of Neptune

My French publisher, Editions çà et là, has been putting previews of their books online with the previewer digiBiDi. It's pretty cool. I've been meaning to put this up for a while.

Sparkplug Comics Needs You!

Hi everyone. Sparkplug Comic Books has started a fundraiser with the crowd funding site indiegogo.com. It's a lot like Kickstarter but they make it even easier to pay via paypal or straight up with a credit card. Sparkplug has put up some of the most generous backer rewards that I've seen so far for a fundraiser. They will use the money raised to published three new books. I am even donating original comic art at the $200 dollar level. Follow the link below to watch the video.
